No! We teach you everything you need to know. The most important characteristics for the role are good people skills, good listening skills and an engaging personality. If you’re still concerned you don’t know enough about climate change, please sign up and reply to the autoresponse email and we can have a chat.
Becoming a Climate for Change facilitator does require an ongoing time commitment, as regular Conversations are key to the growth we need to make the BIG change that is needed in Australia. But we do have facilitators with very busy lives, working or studying up to 50 hours per week and/or combining work with parenting, who still manage to be successful facilitators. Our busier facilitators say they choose to facilitate because they see the impact of each Conversation and they love what they do.
Certainly. Many of our facilitators work full time and find it is not a problem, as most hosts prefer to host outside of standard business hours, too.
Of course! We find that most our facilitators love what they do so much that they never want to stop! You are welcome to stay as long as you wish.
Climate for Change facilitators need to be at least 18 years of age.
We use a Mentor Program in which a current facilitator generously volunteers their time to give you tailored support “on the job”. Additionally, we provide online training to kick-start your journey through a small-group session held on Zoom. Please see this page for more infromation. (Please note that you must complete all of these training modules to become a facilitator)
The total face-to-face training time is 9 - 11 hours. The total online training time is approximately 3 hours and is self-directed.
From the moment you start your training, you will become part of the Climate for Change community. One of the things we’re most proud of is the camaraderie among our facilitators, staff and volunteers, who are passionate about creating the climate for change that we need and supporting each other in doing so, too.
To make the most of your experience we ask all of our facilitators to:
We strongly encourage you to find your first hosts within your own network. Our experience has shown this is the fastest and most effective way to get started and hit your stride as a facilitator. But don’t worry; we’ll provide helpful tips on how to do this during your New Facilitator Training.
