Wanting to take action on climate change but unsure where to start?

We've created these resources to make climate action easier. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck, you can pick a tool, use a template, and get started today.

These resources focus on actions you can do that can lead to systemic change. Primarily, this looks like our government taking stronger action on climate change, but it can also look like pressuring big companies to improve their sustainable practices, and taking power away from coal, oil and gas companies. Individual actions matter, but it is collective pressure on big systems that shapes our climate's future.

Use these resources on your own, with friends, or at one of our Climate Action Clubs. Every one is designed to help you build hope and community - through action.

Climate briefings and templates

Studies have shown that politicians underestimate public support for climate action, and their ambition for bold policies to limit climate change suffers as a result.

Your MP represents you in Canberra — don’t let them make the same mistake. Get them working on the issues you, and the majority of Australians, care about.

Emails and letters are taken seriously and counted. MPs know that for everyone who writes, many more feel the same way. When they receive lots of correspondence on an issue, it gets discussed in policy meetings and can affect decisions.

You don't have to be an expert. Keep it short (a page or less) and personal. Write what you feel. Explain why the issue matters to you and what you want your MP to do about it.

We've prepared issue briefings on current climate topics. Each one includes background notes, suggested questions, and an email template. Choose an issue, use the template, send it. Then follow up and keep your MP accountable.

Want some company or some pointers while you write? Join one of our Climate Action Clubs.

Climate Conversation Cards

Have a climate conversation over a game.

Created by Project Planet, Climate for Change, and Dr. Blanche Verlie from the University of Sydney, this 54 card deck works as both a conversation game and a standard playing deck.

Each suit explores a different side of the climate experience: learning, feelings, solutions, and action. Use it over dinner, on road trips, at the pub, or around a campfire. A tool for connecting, reflecting, and maybe even laughing about the world we're trying to save together.

Buy your deck now. All profits support Climate for Change and Project Planet.

Understanding democracy & climate policy

How does Australian Parliament work? How do federal, state and local governments make legislation about the climate and environment? And how can we as Australian citizens best influence our elected representatives and parliaments to make good decisions about our future?

Here are some of the basics to help you understand how it works, with links to more detailed information if you need it.

Climate Action Menu

This list of opportunities is designed for everyday Australians looking to contribute to  a safer climate. It focuses on action that targets systems of power, not just personal lifestyle changes.

Treat this menu like a list of options, not a to-do list, and pick the items that resonate with you.

Climate action is better with friends - more fun, and more effective over time. This resource will help anyone to take action, but it works best as part of our Climate Conversations and Climate Action Clubs programs - either online or in person.

Climate Conversation tips

Climate Conversations are our bread and butter, so we've summarised some learnings from 10 years of Climate Conversations into a few key tips. Practice is the most important thing, though, so if you want to learn more about having climate conversations (and meet likeminded people!) come along to a training session.

Connect with the climate movement

The more we build the capacity of the broader climate movement, the closer we come to meaningful climate action. We've created a list of other organisations who are also doing important work who you can get involved with or support.
