Day 4: Mindfulness at Work

😌 The connection between Mindfulness and Sustainability

A recent study shows a positive link between people practising mindfulness at the workplace and engaging in sustainable choices. In improving emotional and cognitive regulation, mindfulness helps employees become more self-aware of their environmental impact. For example, companies like Google offer meditation programs and silent rooms for employees to reset and refocus. This awareness encourages workers to prioritise sustainable decision-making, such as reducing waste, conserving energy, and supporting eco-friendly policies.

Lululemon has sought to reflect its code of ethics by providing support for the well-being of its workers across its global supply chain and integrating climate action into its operations. The company has embraced sustainable practices in its products and materials sourcing, waste and packaging, and chemical management.

💡Unleash the power of mindfulness at your workplace

1. Integrate mindfulness practices into the workday

Take regular mindful breaks throughout the day. These include, but are not limited to, short meditation sessions, breathing exercises, or a quiet walk. This helps you be more present and aware of your actions, including your environmental impact.

2. Making eco-conscious decisions

Encourage your fellow co-workers to reflect on the environmental footprint of their decisions, whether it's their energy use, travel choices, or waste production. You can lead by example, such as using a KeepCup for your morning coffee fix, printing sustainably, or even taking the initiative to host a lunch and learn session on mindfulness for sustainability.

We loved this CupCycle kitchen initiative we saw at Uniting Communities when we hosted our Effective Climate Conversations workshop last month!

3. Create mindful spaces for employees

Create quiet, mindful spaces in the workplace where employees can relax and meditate. These spaces can also double as areas for sustainable practices, such as incorporating plants and greenery, and energy-efficient technology.

Take a moment today to pause and reflect on how you can contribute to a more sustainable workplace. Whether it's reducing waste or embracing mindful commuting, every action adds up.

And remember, every small mindful step can lead to big environmental changes! 🌱
