About Climate for Change
Climate for Change (C4C) is a volunteer-powered not-for-profit based in Melbourne. Our mission is to create the social mandate in Australia for effective action on climate change. To do this we use a ‘Tupperware party’ style model of small gatherings in people’s homes, each of which generates at least one more. This is a unique model within the climate movement that allows both deep engagement and exponential growth.
Through our Climate Conversations framework, we build support for climate action in strategic communities and across the country. We engage and activate people across demographics, across the political divide and in both regional and urban communities. We are the only organisation in Australia dedicated to supporting people to have more effective conversations about climate change.

About the Board
The Board supports and provides governance to the organisation to enable it to realise its mission. Specifically, it is responsible for:
- Overseeing the operations of Climate for Change;
- Overseeing Climate for Change’s operations and governance to ensure compliance with our DGR (tax deductibility) status, tax and charity laws;
- Reviewing and amending the governing Rules to meet changing needs of Climate for Change;
- Developing Climate for Change’s existing strategy into short and long term strategic plans with concrete organisational goals;
- Supporting the fundraising subcommittee in the implementation of a fundraising plan;
- Approving Climate for Change’s budget and preparing financial statements;
- Stakeholder and donor engagement; and
- General risk management and governance
Board Members are required to attend regular Board meetings (12 per year) and to do all reading and preparation for these meetings (on average up to one hour of reading). The Board will attend longer strategy sessions (full day or weekend long—as worked out by the Board soon after the EGM).
Members must be prepared to commit approximately 10 hours per month as required to support operations, supervise volunteers, develop policies, or systems or provide strategic guidance & mentorship relevant to their position on the Board and their area of expertise.
In addition, members are expected to be part of one of C4C’s board subcommittee and actively support operations with a core volunteer group. Members of sub-committees will be required to contribute 10-20 hours per month towards the general operations of the organisation. Tasks may include fundraising, volunteer and staff support and liaison, bookkeeping and accounting.
Subcommittees include at this point:
- Governance and Risk - ensures C4C compliance with our DGR (tax deductibility) status, tax and charity laws. Reviews and develops governing rules; e.g., policies and constitution where needed.
- Finance - oversees finances including budgets, monthly reporting, bookkeeping and payroll.
- Program and Strategy - supports C4C volunteer community and programs such as MP engagement groups, Climate Conversation program and Communities Leading Change. Supports infrastructure and data management. Develops and oversees strategy implementation.
- Communications - support C4C social media volunteer team, leads website and social media content and content production such as annual reports.
- Fundraising - stewards C4C’s donor community, including regular givers, major givers and one-off donors. Applies and acquits funding proposals to foundations and donors.
Board members are advocates and ambassadors for the organisation. They are required to attend important events from time to time and are expected to engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for C4C to advance its mission.
According to our Governing Rules, Board members are required to be financial members of Climate for Change — membership fees are $48pa (full) and $24pa (concession).
